Advanced Baseball FAQs

Q. What is Advanced Baseball?
A. The Advanced Baseball program exists as an extension of and to complement the recreational baseball program. The advanced baseball program exists to provide an “advanced” player that has a higher skill level and has a passion for playing an opportunity to compete at a
higher level. This will be accomplished through advanced level instruction and more advanced competition.

Q. Is Advanced Baseball the same as travel baseball?
A. It combines the competitiveness and inter-league play, but is not part of the Travel Ball program, Advanced Baseball is made up of teams at youth baseball parks who are members of the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth program. The Advanced Baseball program only competes against other local Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth leagues (up to 60 miles) and does not compete in travel baseball tournaments.

Q. What is the purpose of Advanced Baseball?
A. The Advanced Baseball program will focus on developing players by reinforcing proper baseball fundamentals, teaching advanced concepts appropriate to each individual age group and by offering advanced level competition. NBYB’s Advanced Baseball program will place a focus on practice and development.  It is a great opportunity for a player to play the sport at an advanced level for their age group.

Q. If my child makes the AB team will they also automatically make the all star team?
A. No, making an Advanced Baseball team does not guarantee your child will make an all star team.  There is a coaches selection committee for All Stars and any player from a regular season can be invited to be an All Star.

Q. How long is the AB season?
A. The spring season will be approximately 12 weeks and 10-15 games. Spring will begin in mid February and finish by the beginning of May.  The fall season will be approximately 8 weeks and approximately 6 games. The Fall season will begin mid to late September and finish in mid November.

Q. How often do AB teams play?
A. The Advanced Baseball teams play on Sundays.  They will play 1-2 Sundays per month in a double header. There will be one tournament each season in addition to the regular schedule.  The tournament will be played on a Sunday and include multiple games based on win/loss.

Q. When do the AB teams play?
A. AB games are played on Sundays with possible exception being the end of season tournament. The Advanced Baseball program will make every effort to schedule all North Brandon teams at the same location as a convenience to families with multiple kids playing at multiple levels within the Advanced Baseball Program.

Q. How often do the AB teams practice?
A. AB teams will have one field practices during the week and one cage practice per week. Additional practices may be scheduled at the Manager’s discretion.  Typical practices are Friday nights and every other Sunday.

Q. How much does it cost to play Advanced Baseball?
A. The total cost to play Advanced Baseball is approx. $120 per season, plus the cost of buying a uniform. Fees are outlined below:

  • Registration: Fee per player is $110 for 8U, $130 for 9U-12U, and $135 for Babe Ruth. The registration fee will be collected once a player is named to a team.
